The legend of Big Hole “Borampo”

Orientation :

One day, in Paranggupito regency. Lived a diligent farmer called Mbah Glemboh. Mbah Glemboh was very diligent farmer even, if he felt very exhausted because of working hard in the field. He often stayed in the field for several day and didn’t come home. However, his wife still faitful with him and everyday she delivered food for him. Because the field were very large and hilly, his wife occasionally can’t meet him. Mbah Glemboh only asked his wife to put the food in a hut even, sometimes she only heard the vioce of Mbah Glemboh from far away and didn’t see where was he.

Complication :

In a hot day, as usual Mbah Glemboh wife’s delivered the food. Then,Mbah Gembloh’s wife shouted, “mbah, where are you? I bring your favorite food “ Lonthong Sayur””.

Mbah Gembloh           answered , “Yes dear, I thank you. Please put it in the hut. I will eat it after I finish with this”.

She put the food in th hut. But, at that time she felt very curious about his husband. She wanted to know what did her husband do. So, she can’t meet him. So, She decided to hide behind a big stone not far from the field.  After very long time waiting, finally Mbah Glemboh appeared and ate his food. How surprised his wife, saw that a horryfying giant was appeard and  ate the food ravenously. She slowly understood that the giant was his husband, Mbah Glemboh. Mbah Glemboh had changed into a horrible giant with long tusk.

Mbah Glemboh’s wife was very afraid so, she ran to her house and told what she had seen to the people in her village. All of the pople were very panic and they decided to caught the giant together. With a simple and traditional gun they went to Brenggolo jungle. In the jungle, the people were encircle the giant and got ready to catch him. Because Mbah Glemboh was suppressed and He didn’t want to hurt somebody , He ran very fast and with his supernatural  power, He flied to the west of Brenggolo jungle.

The people from the village didn’t give up, they still chased Mbah Glemboh. Finally, He perched in a Winong tree, which located in the west of Gendayakan village. The people soon encircled and attacked him. Felt suppressed again, Mbah Glemboh flied to south and fell in a Kedokan field. The people still chase him and Mbah Glemboh climbed coconut tree and took the midrib of the coconut tree. He used it to fly to the west. The people from the village never gave up, they still want to chase him. Finally, Mbah Glemboh fell in prohibition jungle. The jungle was very scary and no one had been in that jungle. There was a big hole and cave in that jungle. Unfortunately,Mbah Glemboh fell near the big hole. The people were more enthusiasm to chase him. When they wanted to catch him, they were very surprised that Mbah Glemboh had changed into a big stone near the big hole. The people were very confused because of that. Then they decided to threw the stone into a big hole. 

Resolution :

They lifted that big and heavy stone together. But, after they threw it. The stone didn’t fall until the bottom of the hole but, hang on in the middle of the hole. Finally the people went home and considered that Mbah Gembloh had passed away. To reminded about Mbah Gembloh, from that incident until now the big hole was called “BORAMPO” from the words “mabur” and “ampuh” meant “fly” and “supernatural power”.

Until now, Borampo was considered as a place which had a supernatural power.
